Food Allergy & Intolerance
Emma can assist you in managing your food allergies and intolerances, creating a well-balanced diet that carefully avoids trigger foods, ensuring your dietary choices accommodate your lifestyle.
How food allergies and intolerances can manifest
Food allergy and intolerance presents with a broad range of symptoms.
If you or your child experiences disturbances in:
- sleep,
- appetite,
- growth,
- skin problems,
- alterations in bowel habit,
- unexplained weight loss, or
- more immediate allergic reactions such as anaphylaxis, respiratory symptoms (including asthmatic episodes), serious bowel symptoms, skin rashes or
- eczema
Emma can work with your medical team to provide an action plan and long-term strategies to prevent malnutrition or cope with food exclusions.
Our approach
During her early years in private practice, Emma observed many children with feeding problems who had been diagnosed with food allergy and intolerance. This led her to pursue training with some of Australia’s leading Allergists, Dietitians and Doctors specializing in food allergy and food intolerance in Queensland and New South Wales.
Emma is a member of the Australian Society of Clinical Allergy and Immunology (ASCIA), which ensures she has access to the most current research and best practice in the area.
Emma has guided hundreds of patients through the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPAH) Elimination Diet protocol and can ensure you maintain health with food intolerances, single or multiple food allergies. She also has experience with infants diagnosed with Food Protein Induced Enterocolitis (FPIES) and children and adults with Eosiophilic Oesophagitis (EoE).
Emma will take a very thorough medical, growth, and nutritional history to develop short, medium and long-term plans to ensure good symptom management, sound nutrition and optimal health. This may include a period of dietary elimination and provocation (food trials). Please note that any exclusion diet isn’t designed for long-term use, rather a short-term diagnostic period. It is helpful to provide a food and symptom record/diary at your initial consultation.
